In the summer of 2018 I had the pleasure of being advisor to University of Manitoba School of Art student Alexandra Ross in a research mentorship from May 7 to August 24. For her work during the program she won first prize in the creative category at the Undergraduate Research Award Poster Competition on October 25, 2018. Congratulations Alexandra!

Alexandra was the recipient of an Undergraduate Research Award which gave her the opportunity to work with a professor of her choice for a sixteen-week period. During the program she assisted me with my research and pursued an independent body of research in the Ceramic Studio at the University of Manitoba. With the research award Alexandra was given her own studio and proceeded to conduct experimental research in the areas of clay technology, unconventional surface and glaze development, and large-scale ceramics that culminated in an artwork titled Old Order, New Order. The poster she designed for the Undergraduate Research Award Poster Competition summarized the extensive explorations involved in creating her large ceramic sculpture, which embodied the concept of chaos versus order. The announcement of her win appeared in the School of Art Newsletter and in UMToday.
