The School of Art Faculty Exhibition continues in ARTlab at the University of Manitoba until May 15, 2015. All the works I’m showing were made in Jingdezhen, China using the famous superwhite porcelain and the PVD process (physical vapour deposition of a metallic surface), which, in ceramics, seems to be unique to Jingedezhen, the porcelain capital of China. I also had large ceramic decals made for the porcelain tiles – I tried a decal on unglazed porcelain, one on glazed porcelain, and the third was unglazed and went into the PVD chamber after the decal had been fired on. All of this research led up to my most recent body of work titled Arbor Vitae.
