The deadline for applying to the University of Manitoba’s two-year Master of Fine Art program is coming up on January 15.

Our MFA program began in 2010 and has continued to grow and develop since then, with numerous candidates successfully completing their MFA degrees including in the area of ceramics. The School of Art offers MFA students generous scholarships, guaranteed teaching assistantships, private studio spaces, and ample engagement with faculty and fellow students.

Since it is still a relatively small program (ranging from ten to fifteen students) each MFA candidate receives lots of attention. It has been exhilarating to see students flourish as they work to push their practice to a new and higher level. Each student creates a body of work for their Thesis Exhibition, to be exhibited in the new School of Art Gallery at the culmination of their two-year program, and writes a brief thesis statement in support of the exhibition.

If you have questions related specifically to pursuing an MFA in ceramics at the University of Manitoba, please contact me: Grace.Nickel@umanitoba.ca. More general questions about the program can be sent to our Student Advisor: soadvise@umanitoba.ca. Also check out the School of Art’s MFA Program Information. We look forward to hearing from you!

Here are some examples of works installed in the School of Art Gallery by recent graduates and a current candidate of the University of Manitoba’s MFA program in the ceramics area.
